Phantom Twins
Originally exhibited Christine Borland, FRAC Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier, France
July 1997 - September 1997
A pair of identical hand-made copies of a Childbirth Demonstration Model, used by the eighteenth century Scottish obstetrician William Smellie, replacing real with plastic skulls.
“At once doll, toy, teaching model and dead infant, these twins lie somewhere in the space between the human and natural desire to (pro)create and a Frankensteinian perversion of that desire”.
